Here are 2 Podcasts I did with the Youth Pastor at my old church. These are just for entertainment purposes. I haven’t listened to them recently and to say my views have changed since the would be a vast understatement. 😛 Let me know what you think! 🙂

Knees to the Earth November 4, 2009

Knees to the Earth

Wonderful Savior
My heart belongs to Thee
I will remember always the blood you shed for me
Wonderful Savior
My heart will know Your worth
So let me embrace You always as I walk this earth

Be blessed, be loved, be lifted high
Be treasured here, be glorified
I owe my life to You, my Lord
Here I am…

Beautiful Jesus
How may I bless Your heart?
Knees to the earth, I bow down to everything You are
Beautiful Jesus
You are my only worth
So I will embrace You always as I walk this earth

Wedding Dress July 31, 2009

Wedding Dress

Wedding Dress

Wedding Dress

if you could love me as a wife
and for my wedding gift, your life
should that be all i’ll ever need
or is there more i’m looking for

and should i read between the lines
and look for blessings in disguise
to make me handsome, rich, and wise
is that really what you want

i am a whore i do confess
but i put you on just like a wedding dress
and i run down the aisle
i’m a prodigal with no way home
but i put you on just like a ring of gold
and i run down the aisle to you

so could you love this bastard child
though i don’t trust you to provide
with one hand in a pot of gold
and with the other in your side
i am so easily satisfied
by the call of lovers less wild
that i would take a little cash
over your very flesh and blood

i am a whore i do confess
but i put you on just like a wedding dress
and i run down the aisle
i’m a prodigal with no way home
but i put you on just like a ring of gold
and i run down the aisle to you

because money cannot buy
a husband’s jealous eye
when you have knowingly deceived his wife

What Matters More

Stockholm Syndrome

Stockholm Syndrome

Derek Webb coming to Winston-Salem in September 30th 2009, here is info: (I’d like to go!)

What Matters More

You say you always treat people like you like to be
I guess you love being hated for your sexuality
And love when people put words in your mouth
bout what you believe, make you sound like a freak

Cause if you really believed what you say you believe
you wouldn’t be so damn reckless with the words you speak
wouldn’t silently consent when the liars speak
denying all the dying of a remedy

Tell me, brother, what matters more to you?
Tell me, sister, what matters more to you?

If I can tell what’s in your heart by what comes out of your mouth
then it sure looks to me like being straight is all it’s about
yah, it looks like being hated for all the wrong things
and chasing the wind while the pendulum swings

Cause we can talk and debate till we’re blue in the face
about the language and tradition that He’s coming to save
Meanwhile we sit just like we don’t give a shit
about 50,000 people who are dying today

Tell me, brother, what matters more to you?
Tell me, sister, what matters more to you?

Tell me, brother, what matters more to you?
Tell me, sister, what matters more to you?
Tell me, what matters more to you?
Tell me, brother, what matters more to you?

What other people think of me is none of my business. –RuPaul

You want to know how big God’s love is?  The answer is: It’s very big. It’s bigger than you’re comfortable with.” –Anne Lamott

When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.— Dom Helder Camara, former Archbishop of Olinda and Recife, Brazil.

Thou shalt not be a victim. Thou shalt not be a perpetrator. Above all, thou shalt not be a bystander.Holocaust Museum, Washington, D.C.

Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition. –Timothy Leary, philosopher and psychologist

The supreme satisfaction is to be able to despise one’s neighbor and this fact goes far to account for religious intolerance. It is evidently consoling to reflect that the people next door are headed for hell.–Aleister Crowley Author and occultist

The bigotry of the nonbeliever is for me nearly as funny as the bigotry of the believer.–Albert Einstein,

Einstein and his tongue.

Einstein and his tongue.theoretical physicist

The wiser you are, the more you believe in equality, because the difference between what the most and the least learned people know is inexpressibly trivial in relation to all that is unknown.–Albert Einstein

You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image, when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.–Unknown

I screamed at God for all the starving children, and then I realized that all of the starving children were God screaming at me.–Unknown

I think it’s about time we gave up religion and got back to God.–Lenny Bruce, Stand-up comedian, writer, social critic and satirist

If it weren’t for Christians, I’d be a Christian. –Mahatma Gandhi

I have a dream…that some day my children will be judged not by the color of their skin but rather by the content of their character.–Martin Luther King, Jr.

In Germany, the Nazis first came for the Communists, and I did not speak up, for I was not a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak up, for I was not a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak up, for I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I did not speak up, for I was a Protestant. And then they came for me, and by that time, no one was left to speak up.–Martin Niemoller

It is wonderful how much time good people spend fighting the devil. If they would only expend the same amount of energy loving their fellow men, the devil would die in his own tracks of ennui.–Helen Keller

What I am looking for is not out there; it is in me.–Helen Keller

The beginning of wisdom is found in doubting; by doubting we come to the question, and by seeking we may come upon the truth.–Pierre Abelard

Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own

U2 - HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB

U2 - HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB

I’ve been listening to a lot of U2 lately, and if you’ve been following this blog you’ve seen me quote Bono quite a few times. It’s funny because a always thought he was kind of  a liberal rockstar jerk, now I think he’s a better Christian than most of us. I can’t find the exact quote but I think he said something like, I don’t trust religion that is not connected to social change. Yep, I know think that we (Christians) should be more worried about people who are starving, have no clean water or are being muderered because of their race than worrying aboutyour personal vices.

So, I’m going to post some U2 songs with lyrics and YouTube video and comment on what I think they mean, you may not agree and even think thats not what they meant but this is MY blog and I can say wahtever I want :). You can get your own blog and say whatever you want too. Feel free to agree or disagree in the comments below.

This is a tribute to Bono’s father Bob Hewson who died in 2001. Bono sang it for the first time at his father’s funeral; it reflects on their tense relationship until just before his death, when Bono claims they became closer than ever before.

Bono on his father: “His whole thing was, Don’t dream – to dream is to be disappointed. That was really what I think was his advice to me. He didn’t speak it in those words, but that’s what he meant, and of course that’s really a recipe for megalomania isn’t it? I mean I was only ever interested in big ideas, and not so much dreaming but putting dreams into action, doing the things that you have in your head has become an important thing for me. The song was dedicated to him and it’s a portrait of him – he was a great singer, a tenor, a working class Dublin guy who listened to the opera and conducted the stereo with my mother’s knitting needles. He just loved Opera, so in the song, I hit one of those big tenor notes that he would have loved so much. I think he would have loved it, I hope so.”

As a tribute to his father, Bono usually removes his large sunglasses during this song. His dad used to say to him, “Bono, why don’t you ever take off those f–king glasses?”

I don’t have too much to say about it but Bono is a well documented Christian and I think this songs talks a lot about a relationship with God as well. You can plan the video below and read the lyrics or just watch it.

U2 – Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own

Tough, you think you’ve got the stuff
You’re telling me and anyone
You’re hard enough

You don’t have to put up a fight
You don’t have to always be right
Let me take some of the punches
For you tonight

Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don’t have to go it alone

And it’s you when I look in the mirror
And it’s you when I don’t pick up the phone
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own

We fight all the time
You and I… that’s alright
We’re the same soul
I don’t need… I don’t need to hear you say
That if we weren’t so alike
You’d like me a whole lot more

Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don’t have to go it alone

And it’s you when I look in the mirror
And it’s you when I don’t pick up the phone
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own

I know that we don’t talk
I’m sick of it all
Can you hear me when I Sing,
you’re the reason I sing
You’re the reason why the opera is in me

Where are we now?
I’ve got to let you know
A house still doesn’t make a home
Don’t leave me here alone

And it’s you when I look in the mirror
And it’s you that makes it hard to let go
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own
Sometimes you can’t make it
The best you can do is to fake it
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own
